In celebration of its 140th anniversary this December 2024, Bonnat, the prestigious French chocolatier from Voiron near Grenoble, has launched a limited-edition creation: “Chocolat Blanc et Matcha”. This exquisite white chocolate bar blends Bonnat’s rare ancient cacao with organic Japanese matcha from Kagoshima, selected especially for this collaboration with GOZEN, a historic tea brand descended from a lineage of samurai women.

Founded in 1884, Bonnat Chocolatier is internationally renowned for its bean-to-bar craftsmanship and commitment to origin-specific cacao. In 1984, Raymond Bonnat, father of current sixth-generation owner Stéphane Bonnat, introduced the now industry-standard concept of “single-origin chocolate”, highlighting cacao sourced from individual regions or estates.

Stéphane Bonnat, who began learning cacao cultivation in South America at just 17 years old, continues to evolve the Maison’s legacy with innovative creations. His award-winning chocolates are beloved across France, with Bonnat’s signature colourful tablets gracing fine gourmet shops and their iconic Paris boutique.

This year’s standout, “Chocolat Blanc et Matcha” (¥4,212), combines the natural sweetness of white chocolate with the refined bitterness of high-grade Japanese matcha. The matcha, cultivated organically in Kagoshima and used exclusively for Bonnat, brings a layer of depth and health-conscious appeal to the bar. The result is a luxurious and elegant chocolate that balances indulgence with wellness.

This collaboration between two heritage brands—Bonnat and GOZEN Matcha—offers a limited opportunity to enjoy an authentic fusion of French chocolate artistry and Japanese tea tradition.
